About Attitude Autos |
![]() |
![]() With deep family roots dating back to the 1930's in modifications, specialist vehicles and other creative adventures John Bitmead's grandfather Stan Phillips, who had a Heathrow based workshop near London boasted accomplishments that included helping create Malcolm Campbell's record-breaking water speed jet boat "The Bluebird" assisted in creating the spark that would drive John into his future career. John started off in engineering and then went on to study commercial art in Hammersmith. By his early 20s, he had set up his own bodyshop, turning his hand to early customs and drag racing paintwork that eventually progressed into custom bike paintwork and then incorporated prop and model making. He then set up an innovative new product for motorcycles which eventually ended up as a healthy global business and was eventually sold. Around that time John was creating more and more different and unusual things for motorcycles and cars. He became involved with an Italian classic car specialist company doing high-level restorations and fabrications, which then led to another specialist restoration company working on vintage and historic race cars in Leek, Staffordshire. Finally, California beckoned him and he spent 3 years working on classic and vintage vehicles, getting involved with American Hotrod and Pimp My Ride crews. Back in the UK he carried on doing specialist laminating, culminating in work creating Formula 1 show cars and simulators for a company, before setting up the current business just outside of Oxford. |
Our Famous Toytown Coupe |
![]() Our base in the little village of Ambrosden near Oxford is situated about 4 miles from the M40. It is an old army theatre/cinema and it oozes character which helps with our inspirations. Late last year we wanted to make something fun and when an associate mentioned that he'd motorised a Cosy Coupe for his son, John was struck with an instant vision - a life-sized road-going version! That was to be the new project; John went home that night and drew the plans up taking it in the following morning to show the crew. It took a little convincing due to the number of projects already underway but they finally all accepted and the Toytown Coupe concept was born. |
